Rod’s more than 25 year career in telecommunications technology has included general management, technology development and application engineering with leading corporations, including both a Fortune 500 conglomerate as well as start-ups that have grown to multi-billion companies.
Rod is a founding partner at Tritech Sales and Services, LLC an international consulting firm which provides business strategy and development to help wireless companies start and grow. Rod also served as EVP and CTO of AT&T Wireless, where he led and set the groundwork for 3G technology evolution and also defined future wireless network architecture and technology direction. He has worked closely with national and international regulators and standards bodies on creation of 3G standards, and has developed spectrum strategies to make radio spectrum available for 3G deployment.
Over his career at McCaw Cellular and AT&T Wireless, Rod led the development and introduction of major technology and service enhancements. One significant accomplishment of the early 1990’s was leading the team that designed and implemented “cellular roaming.” Novel at the time, what became known as the North American Cellular Network, allowed people to travel and simply call from their mobile phone without entering the manual codes that were previously required.
Other key accomplishments include the development of the Wireless Intelligent Network, including the deployment of the first general computer-based, off-switch Home Location Register in North America. Rod has developed patented technologies to manage roaming traffic (Intelligent Roaming), which contributed to significant reductions in corporate roaming rates.
